Shopping around the world: Paris
18. May 2018 | 3 Questions to…, Shop Fitting, Store Design & Visual Merchandising

Ooh-la-la, Paris!

The city of art, fashion and haute cuisine but also a paradise for anyone who loves shopping!

Patricia Muller, dyed-in-the-wool Frenchie and managing director of PROMESSA, Salons Internationaux, serving as Messe Düsseldorf’s foreign representative in France since 1984, reveals to us where and how she prefers to embark on her shopping expeditions about the city – along with insider tips …

Frau Muller, describe to us your perfect shopping day in Paris?

To my mind, a perfect shopping day in Paris kicks off with a lovely hot chocolate at Angelina at 226, Rue de Rivoli and ends with post-shopping dinner at the intimate eatery Legrand Filles et Fils including dégustation counter where you can enjoy very good wines.

What is your current favourite store in the city and why?

As a Frenchwoman it is impossible for me to name just one store but here are just a few examples:

For bags I recommend Jérôme Dreyfuss (always ultra-modern and not overloaded) and Barbara Rihl for the weekend. Here you will find fun bags always in tune with that “travel” theme.

You can find great perfumes at Annick Goutal (ultra-high-quality but not so well known) or at L’artisan parfumeur, they have an endless choice of fragrances.

Scarves and shawls can be found at Sophie Digard, a fashionable address with loads of personality and very good quality to boot.

Then there is Merci, a concept store with thousands of fashion and design items. The boutique with a glass roof spreads over 3 floors is located at 111, Boulevard Beaumarchais, in a very trendy area.

Repetto is a world-renowned address for ballerina pumps called into existence in 1965 by a star dancer. They had Brigitte Bardot’s favourite ballerinas, the brand became world famous because of this. The pumps are ultra-comfy and ultra-trendy (and, what’s more, they come in hundreds of colours).

The concept store Le 66 Champs Elysées offers a large selection of clothing and accessories boasting over 200 world famous brands. A dream!

THE department store in Paris is Le Bon Marché at 24, Rue de Sèvres – very trendy with a subdued atmosphere.

And last but not least, I would like to mention La Grande Epicerie de Paris: Here you will find top cookware, international products and a wine cellar in a large food store in sophisticated surroundings. Located at 38, Rue de Sèvres, the store belongs to the Bon Marché department store.

What do you buy online and what in physical retail?

I only buy coffee pods and a few cosmetic products I know online. Otherwise I buy everything else in physical retail because then the shopping experience is a much more emotional one!
