Increasingly automated control and optimization of electricity and heat consumption in the retail sector, zero or plus energy concepts for retail buildings, regenerative energy generation and own electricity use, e.g. by supplying green electricity to charging points on the car park: these are modern concepts and technologies that can contribute to achieving the goal of a climate-neutral building stock by 2050, which is the goal of the Federal Government.
In the long term, the relevance of energy storage systems will increase for a successful energy system transformation. This is also confirmed by the energy experts in the retail trade. For example, there are battery storage units that can take up excess photovoltaic electricity from the roof, but there are also storage units that provide thermal energy: The combination of heat pump and ice storage is a possibility for the food retail trade.

Benjamin Chini, Project Manager Energy Management Research Division of the EHI Retail Institute e.V., will speak on 13 March 2019 from 12:00 to 12:10 pm on the occasion of the ENERGY STORAGE EUROPE trade fair in the Forum in Hall 8b about opportunities and examples for an active contribution of the retail trade to a sustainable energy system The lecture titled “The retail trade as a co-designer of a sustainable energy system” is free of charge for all trade fair visitors (lecture in German).

International focus on energy storage systems

Energy Storage Europe 12.-14. März 2019, DüsseldorfThe 8th ENERGY STORAGE EUROPE, trade fair for the global energy storage industry, will take place from 12 to 14 March 2019 at the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre. The focus is on applications and energy systems. Trade experts who want to find out more about the possibilities of energy storage and smart solutions will get a complete overview of current storage solutions for all application areas at the trade fair.

Energy management in retail is of great relevance. The EHI presents the EHI Energy Management Award (EMA) annually as part of the trade congress of the same name. Outstanding energy management concepts, energy efficiency projects as well as innovative technologies and concepts with special climate protection relevance for the retail trade are identified and made known to the industry.

EHI is a scientific institute of the retail industry. Its more than 800 members include international retail companies and their associations, manufacturers of consumer and capital goods, and various service providers.
